Adrian's Villa

Aelius Hadrianus, the second Spanish born emperor of Rome (after Trajan), was a capable administrator and an inveterate traveler, and left an accurate portrait of his soul in Villa Adriana.

Historians state that Hadrianus designed himself the project of the Villa and some of the many buildings, and personally supervised the works. In fact, the emperor left his unmistakable mark everywhere in the villa.
